Now, while many parents would greatly love to have exceptional babies who are visibly one or two steps ahead of their peers, for a few discovering the rare abilities in their kids can be something else. Not only would it be exciting, it could also be confusing and a real daunting task to help and support baby genius to his or her full positive potentials.
EXPLAINING TYPES OF GIFTEDNESS
To understand giftedness and their types, parents should also know that the word "intelligence" comes into mind. To attribute intelligence to a person, it must mean that the person is known to be differently clever or bright. So to have a more glaring picture on this, it should be noted that there are different types of intelligence and thus different types of giftedness, namely school house giftedness and creative productive giftedness.
School house giftedness - This kind of giftedness is linked to the ability to do well or succeed exceptionally in school. Usually in typical school-related activities. Children with this kind of above average abilities tend to be good in IQ test, abstract thinking, verbal and numerical or quantitative reasoning, ability to judge the position and size s of objects, excellent memory retention, word fluency and familiarity, adapting to changes and the ability to retrieve and make use of learned information.
Creative productive giftedness - With this kind of giftedness, a child is able to think and perform or do things in a more original way. Such kids can be highly creative, churning out large amount of task in less time than it is possible for his or her age mates to achieve. They can arrive to the same solution through different routes. They can be termed as perfectionist. They can display true openness to an experience, have high sense of flexibility and dexterity to executing a task. They can be very committed with great drive and enthusiasm to succeed.
However, knowingfully well that there is a drop of giftedness in every child, the above two types of giftedness can be in mild, moderate or profoundly levels and available research works at The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented at the University of Connecticut by Joseph Renzulli, confirms that factors such as, educational levels of parents', socio-economic levels, home environments, child's position in the family, child's health, parents' personality and availability of role model figure all goes a long way in influencing and shaping the enhancement for giftedness. Therefore your growing baby can show signs of giftedness and whether they develop it in a positive way through their long journey to adulthood depends greatly on their environment and whether their talents are truly nurtured.
DISCOVERING SIGNS OF GIFTEDNESS IN YOUR KID
Honestly and sincerely from 6 months onward, you should not as parents and caregivers underestimate the abilities of your baby. You will be amazed as time goes by at some of the things they can come up with. So signs of true giftedness starts very early. Most gifted children are usually very alert, observant, curious and creative. They have expansive attention span, learning quickly with a good memory, large vocabulary and a strong and wide imaginary abilities.
Many talented toddlers at the of 24 months are familiar with letters and words. At age 3, they can typically complete a 20-piece puzzle. By age 4, they can sight-read an easy reader and sound out new words.
Furthermore, gifted children display sense of humor and perfectionism, tend to choose older play mates, act mature, have elevated sense of morality and justice. They are very sensitive and intensely display frustration once they face any limitation. However, it is important to note that early milestones of movement, speech and reading are favorable indicators of giftedness, especially when they happen together. But otherwise the early achievement in reading is better than speech and a good example as suggested by research is that Albert Einstein who only spoke at the age of 4.
TIPS FOR PARENTING YOUR BUNDLE OF TALENTS
Interestingly while your child's gifted capacity and intellects may increase, they may also be challenging and difficult (sleeping less, playing extensively and actively, strong reaction to pain, noise and frustrations) to being vulnerable. In these times, remember this important tips.
*Your child maybe exceptionally gifted, they still have some weakness and may use their giftedness to hide it. As committed parents, emphasis should be laid on their disabilities as much as their abilities.
*Because gifted kids play and interact In a more higher level than their peers, friction and rejection may occur which may force them to play on their own. But playing with their age group or siblings is an essential part of child development for trust and acceptance. So encourage them by providing variety of ages, gifted or not, to play with.
*Your gifted child is easily frustrated by some limitations that confronts them. Allow them to express frustrations and gently let them know challenges should only spur them to overcome some of their inadequacies at other stage.
*Remember that your baby genius is sometimes one step ahead of you, make efforts in discovering different discipline techniques for proper complex handling.
*Be sensitive and understand that just because your kid is talented does not mean that other children are not special. Orient your child to respect the personality of other children, accepting that everyone is unique and has weaknesses as well as strength.
*Know that your baby has special needs and could be more demanding, sleeping less, pushing boundaries, asking more questions and getting more into troubles. Exercise abundance of patience and seek assistance if you see you can not cope.
*Just because your child is a genius at almost every other thing, does not mean they must be good at the tables. Often times they are poor eaters, selecting food and not finishing their meals. Yours is to patiently explain and convince them that good nutrition is crucial for their healthy development.
*In all things do not fail to keep memories of all your child's initial achievements - first word, sitting, crawling and walking quick achievements, books read etc, to help with later assessment and remembrance.

PARENTING THE HARSH WAY? IT SURE HAS TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCE
Yes. Agreed you love your child and want the best for him or her. And because you love your kid so much and you are determined to successfully mould the child into a responsible and exemplary adult. You have employed a somewhat questionable and hard stance method to instill discipline into your bundle of joy. Of course, the reality is that you are 100% bound to fail than you are 30% ever going to succeed. You are bound to fail because military approach to handling a child's irresponsibility is not and will never produce positive result. Some parent do not know when a child is willfully defiant or childishly making mistakes. When you follow a child's clumsiness with harsh reproach like hitting, slapping, swearing, shouting and insulting instead of patience and understanding that is expected, the end result is a bruised mind and an altered personality. A child who has suffered unpleasant and traumatic parenting, in their bid to overcome the long-journeyed nightmare in early adulthood tend to be fiercely hateful toward their parent knowing fully well they never got adequate love and understanding they longed for from their parent. I assure you don't want to incur the wrath and loathing of a teenager.
Parents should exercise a lot; a really mean A LOT OF and overflowing restrain, patience, gentleness, and understanding. Sometimes you need to as the good parent you are, repeat an instruction and correction severally before they register in a child's brain. When you are patient and understanding, then it is not difficult anymore to handle a child's shortcomings. Current trend shows they need lots of love for them to get there, not lots of love to spoil them. You can set disciplinary measures to draw the line between wrong and right but don't be extreme and over zealous in enforcing your punishment. Investigate first to know why he or she has committed a certain wrongdoing. While some parents are too quick to conclude and cannot restrain to hit, spank or shout insults in their bid to aright their ward. Others loves to make a show of their insane disciplinary methods, especially in the presence of an audience (this may be a friend or even the child's friend). A certain Mrs. Obiora is an example of how unimaginable some parent can be. To her daughter Jane, it's a constant battle ground, sometimes unpleasant. On this particular day, Jane had attended a debate. Her mother who had visited the salon, picked up Jane after the event with a friend from the salon. While in the car, Mrs. Obiora had asked her daughter about the debate and what she had learnt. Jane being the slow type, stammered and cowered to herself and the mother, never failing on her part, got irritated, angry and started hauling missiles of verbal insults at the helpless girl…….You dumb, useless, good-for-nothing child. She started……wasting my time and money sending you to school and what do I get?..... Stupid and empty head that cannot answer simple question. She flared and raved. Mothers are supposed to be sweeter and gentler more than fathers. I can't just understand how some mother could be so mean.
Think of the damage. The traumatic torture and personality alteration which is not supposed to be. Not being able to stand and speak up for themselves. Self-esteem diminished and destroyed. Lacking confidence to freely assert or express their minds. Inferiority complex superimposed. Always in the background and scared of the world. These are the terrible predicament that could befall to a child when parent take the hard way to teach and train a child. Of the worst thing you could do to a child is to crush his or her spirit and self-worth. Discipline does not necessarily mean the use of harsh words, humiliation and corporal punishment. Harsh words like "Useless and stupid!" or "Dumb head, can't make straight As like the Scot's kid!" or "You never do anything correctly" are totally uncalled for. If a child is slow and does lots of mistake, it is the duty of the parent to encourage and help such a child to overcome the challenges before them. If discipline or hard measures must be applied in bringing up a child, it should be handled with subtleness and wisdom - scolding with one hand, soothing and encouraging a lot with the other. Love, patience and understanding must be greater than your correcting tactic and if not, of what essence are you called parents. What then is the essence of saying you love your kid and want the best for him or her and yet the child cannot hold his shoulder straight, head up high in your presence or anyone else and express healthy polite assertiveness and other vital social skill, an important learned behavior to interact positively within and outside the immediate environment.

SNACKING AND NAPPING, SURELY AUGMENTS YOUR KIDS HEALTH, GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Creating a snacking time for your child may seem unecessary and making them to take their nap somtimes maybe a real though job. But in actual sense, the kind of food you choose to give your kids as snack is very important and mapping out a special time frame for mid-day rest is essential for your childs overall health, growth and development.
SNACK TIME - TREATY TIMES: Because growing toddlers most times don't eat much of their regular meals, giving them this special food now and then in-between their small meals, is a treat they will never say no to. So snacking time should not be a one time fixed affair. Consider the following three special foods as snacks for your kids and they will always look forward to it with each passing day
APPLES - Perhaps if all mothers should have the slightest knowledge of the goodness that is packed within an apple, kids would be better for it, both for their enjoyment and health concerns and parents will make sure a day will not pass without an apple experience. Apple, as one of the fruits that can be plucked and eaten fresh, is known to be a good nurser of the heart. Scientist say with it's rich pectin content, it helps to keep the heart in good condition. It also prevents asthma in children. One apple daily or four to five apples in a week should be a okay for your kids.
NOTE: As parents, your health and well-being is crucial too and taking atleast two to three apples daily, lowers cholesterol levels and keeps colon cancer at bay.
NUTS AND SEEDS - This special kind of food are richly endowed and can be made a now-and-then special treat for the kids. Unlike the apple, nuts and seeds may not readily be accepted by your kids, but a consistent serving is encouraged for your child to get to know and then accepts them because their nutritional value can not just be overlooked and as such they are important in your childs diet. Nuts and seeds like almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, cashewnuts etc, are exceptionally full of amino acids, omega-3 fatty acid and arginine that helps to also nuture the heart, improves healing process and even stimulates the pitutary gland for the desired growth in children. They are also known to contain vitamin E (antioxidant), giving your child healthy, soft skin.

Toddlers are known to be very active and busy little beings. From the time they comfortably starts crawling, they can roam round the house, back and forth, exploring, discovering, touching, staring and all sorts of things you will be surprised they can come up with. With this their endless activities, there comes a time when they will tireout, thus nap time beckons. Making your child learn how to take a nap is very important and you will notice that as they grow older, they will inbibe the culture of taking a mid-day rest. Napping, aids their growth and development and even their mental approach to life later on because after each daily nap, they wake up refreshed, and ever ready to play and learn even more. Napping helps to stimulate and rest your kids brain. It also boost a healthy appetite. Fixing a time frame for nap time is good, but don't be surprise if your kid naps twice during mid-day. Discourage napping in the evenings or you will found your child doing the watch man session while the rest of the family is restifully sleeping. After their plays, whenever it't time, make them to. However, don't force them to. If your child does not want to take a nap, let he or her be. They will surely take it another time or day.

MOTHERS WATCH OUT CAUSE KIDS WILL ALWAYS BE KIDS
KIDS! They will always be unpredictable. They will never cease to surprise you. They will come up with things you never imagined or even dreamt of, let alone telling them what not to do.
Whether it is ripping out the tape from VHS carssette, pushing down mugs from the table, smearing mud on the walls, pushing toast into the video recorder, sticking fingers down a plug hole and not being able to help themseves out, turning their mums lipstick to crayons and doing their own God-knows art work on the sheets, washing their hands inside the toilet basin, smearing the content of their poo-filled nappy all over the place or experimenting with knives, matches and lots more, one thing is for sure, they will never cease to amaze you or come up with the unthinkable.
Are our children headed for a lifetime of terrorism? Or perhaps gunning for the Guinness Book of Records? Are our kids just deliberately being naughty? Or is he or she simply doing what comes naturally? Experts like paediatricians and psychologists allays your fears and worries, advising that, nothing that your kid come up with, should surprise you. Every childs behaviour flunctuates periodically and because every child are not born with the ability to differentiate right from wrong. The development of their moral concepts and values evolve gradually.
Consider the follwing three situations and you may well understand your little lord:
PUSHING BOUNDARIES: Pushing boundaries and being inquisitive is very normal and healthy. As parents if your child does not show this trait, then you should be concerned cause it usually has implications for their emotional development and their relationships later in life.
